State College has so many amazing, local spots to get dinner at but we narrowed it down to 4 of our favorites right now, in no particular order, with a few honorable mentions. As the seasons come and go so do our favorite spots in State College. When it comes to spring & summer in State College, PA these locations hold a special place in our heart!
Otto's Pub & Brewery
Started in 2002, Otto's pub and brewery quickly outgrew its first location and found new roots in the old Quaker Steak & Lube located at 2235 North Atherton St. This State College OG is know for it's amazing brews, farm to table food, and history rich atmosphere. During the spring and summer Otto's Brewery has outdoor seating in its front patio. Sadly this patio is not dog friendly but it's still a perfect spot for a pink skied dinner and beer on a summer evening. We usually opt for a Green Weenie or Apricot Wheat to start with a beer pretzel and their nose tingling, horseradish mustard. Follow that with a #18 and an awesome burger or wood fire pizza. You can't go wrong at Otto's. They also have a handful of vegetarian and vegan options.
GiGi's Southern Table
Tucked away from downtown state college and located at 2080 Cato Ave you can expect a calm, Edison bulb lite, patio with a fire pit. GiGi's has some amazing southern inspired, farm to table food but can make an amazing Moscow Mule or any other mixed drink your little heart desires. Their beer selection is limited but the wine is plenty! Gigi's Happy Hour is another major catch at this location with $3 craft drafts, $5 house wine by glass, and $5 Big Springs draft cocktails! Last time we were there we got their pulled pork sandwich sub the chips with sweet potato fries and their mascarpone raviolis. Both are absolutely amazing and you can't go wrong with either one. The staff have a southern, friendly charm and the patio rules!
The Field Burger & Tap
The Field, located in a hotel on a golf course in Toftrees, has the best burgers hands down! Not only are their burgers amazing but you can order a table of fries. That's right, a table of fries. They'll bring out a bucket of fries and parchment paper and dump them on the table for all to enjoy! Their draft selection has a decent amount of local brews and some out of state beers as well. They can make mixed drinks and have wine too. Their patio is small so you may have to wait some time to get a seat there. If you're too hunger to wait the inside has a country house vibe and decor that's fun and lively! Last time we went we stuck with our go-to's which is their The Bean burger and Not Mom's Grilled Cheese with some fries, of course! If you leave room then you have to try one of their signature milkshakes. Available as hard or regular. Though the outdoor seating is limited this spot has some of the best food in town!
Champs on Atherton
Champs has the brews! That's for sure! You can get domestic on tap, local brews, PA brews and sometimes some amazing Cali Brews like Alpine Brewery (One of our favorites ever). Their patio is large and can fit big parties if needed. Their food is more pub fair with hoagies, amazing apps, nachos, pizzas, and a few main entree style dishes. We go here for trivia, especially during the winter, but the summer gives this spot a new purpose and that's to drink outside in the sun and munch some nachos and an Ultimate.
Food is limited but the outdoor seating is prime! Located right along spring creek you can bring your dog and lounge out in the seats they have available on the lower level lawn behind the tap room.
This brewery and restaurant is located in Lewistown so it didn't make the list for State College but it has an awesome patio with live music, amazing brews and food during the summer.
Outdoor communal seating in gravel, corn hole, outdoor bar, strung light bulbs in the evening, this spot has the drinks and good times. Food is limited, as of now, to pretzels and finger food. Soooo, just go to party.
When it comes to spring & summer in State College, PA these locations hold a nostalgic place in our hearts! They all have their own unique experience so it just depends on what you're looking for. If we missed one then let us know in the comments below!
